How does an architect combat an unattractive developing website with uninspiring views? By employing a “double skin” comprised of glass and perforated aluminum, that’s how. Japanese architect Yoshihiro Amano did just that, with his beguilingly decorative Dear Ginza, an workplace building in Tokyo’s Ginza district.
“Considering the views from the inside, simply acquiring openness with glass appears futile, given that the outdoors scenery is hopeless. As a result, a double skin structure is employed, which consists of glass curtain walls and graphically treated aluminum punched metal. The façade becomes a component of the interior decoration and obviates the need to have for window treatment options such as blinds or curtains,” even though lowering both air conditioning and glass cleaning needs.
“In the neighborhood of mostly modernist architecture with horizontal and vertical or geometric shapes, the constructing has,” says the architect, “a correct feeling of strangeness.” Strangely ravishing, we say.
