Emerging from its forestal surroundings replete with wildlife, +node is a modern day dream home comprised of two perpendicular cedar and glass volumes. Designed by UID Architects & Associates, this minimalist dwelling in Fukuyama, Japan enthralls as it meshes invisibly with nature.
Due to the topography, one structure rests both directly upon and buried into the earth, although the other dramatically cantilevers, hovering over 30 feet above the forest. A framed void was innovatively developed to welcome trees to freely develop upwards within it. The overall vibe right here is tranquil, while the clean-lined style perspective enables the outdoors world to gently penetrate all interior spaces.
The approach to the home is deceiving, with a geometric reduce-out within a wood block perched upon the hillside. A smooth concrete slab angled upon rocky terrain leads to the entry which meets the kitchen, living and dining rooms to the south plus the study on the north side. At one finish of the main volume in the kitchen, a floor-to-ceiling glass panel is featured behind a causal, built-in dining counter, spectacularly framing the foliage. The master suite, child’s bedroom and baths reside on the reduced level for privacy.
Light pours in by way of the skylights and quite a few steel-framed windows patterned throughout the dwelling, some which function slatted screens supplying shade. A patio terrace (which is simultaneously the master bedroom’s rooftop) can be directly accessed from the initial floor and, with no railing technique, seamlessly reaches out into the woodlands. What a gorgeous, meditative space!
Furnishings are sparse and the color palette restrained, mostly in black and all-natural wood, with zebra print thrown in for good measure. Whilst light cherry floors float all through this 1,350 square foot property, it’s the plywood which is a really cool stand-out. Lining the walls and ceiling, this material is raw and beautiful, mirroring this minimalistic home’s serene environ.
+node is a contemporary dream residence, constructed for a family to enjoy a casual way of life whilst connecting harmoniously to earth, animals and sky.
