The Mandeville Canyon Residence, a contemporary home with fresh panoramic view in Los Angeles, California. This house completed by Griffin Enright Architects. The covered porch is a result of the shifting geometry among the ground floor and second level plans that creates an open corner for the house. The porch and living room level is subtly lifted from the ground plane, creating a layer of terracing that extends the topographic shifts of the landscape into the property. This upper level, distinctly horizontal, creates yet another layer that extends the lifting landscape below.

Description from Griffin Enright Architects
“This project is sited on a knoll at the corner of a scenic canyon, with panoramic views of the city. The residence is created as of a series of horizontal volumes which merge with the terrain of the landscape at the rear, while from the front yard its presence is distinctly far more urban, vertical, and formal. This dichotomy is emphasized by the articulation of two vertical walls that are folded into roof surfaces to develop a backdrop anchored to the horizontal terrain. These two shell-like components shift away from one particular yet another in program to develop a volumetric fissure where entry happens into a vertical hall. Upon entry to the hall, a threshold redirects interest to the panoramic view by means of the loft-like living space beyond. Telescoping doors permit the complete property to become a porch like living space.”
