The design and style collaboration among Hughes Condon Marler and Dub Architects led to the development of Jasper Place Branch Library, a project recently completed in Edmonton, Canada. The aim of the new building was to develop “a sustainable design to fulfill present and future library wants and uses, to welcome all demographics and to accommodate future reorganizations of the collection and reading areas”. The massive modern creating replaces a tiny library which was located on the exact same web site.
The futuristic project displays an irregular shape, with an impressive glass facade and an original undulating roof. The inner spaces encourage social interaction, by “incorporating a continuous raised floor that allows for flexibility more than time and eliminating the need for services at the roof level. Stairs (a single of which also acts as each social space and informal amphitheater) are positioned at every single end of the upper level and form a continuous circulation loop”, explained the architects.
