Australian studio Edwards Moore has revamped a little brick property in Melbourne by adding a new storey and a translucent roof. A little single-storey terrace residence, dwarfed by the surrounding urban fabric. The aim, to increase the good quality and scale of the living spaces inside, enhance the sense of aspect/outlook and access to natural light, whilst keeping a private and comforting oasis.
By thinking about the addition of the second floor not basically as the addition of horizontal plane perched atop the existing structure, but equally as a vertical space which, via its connectivity amongst ‘branches’, creates a excellent sense of volume and unity within the dwelling as a entire.
