The Serpentine by Turner:

“The home actions down the web site and is articulated into 3 legible components taking cues from a traditional tripartite style of forming a base, middle and top. The solid ‘base’ with recessed openings anchors the house to the website with external walls extending out from the home to form landscaped retaining walls and actions which are positioned at all-natural ground level or under.

The open planned living locations sit on leading of the strong base as a recessed transparent ‘middle’ element to capture views and sunlight. Moreover, due to the orientation of the website and the need to maximise solar access, the roof more than the living area folds up to capture northern sunlight with important eave overhangs to provide shading from the summer season sun. The southern extent of the mid level of the property, which includes awnings and balustrades, is setback within the rear covenant setback zone.

The ‘top’ of the residence, which involves the bedrooms and service locations, folds and curves with consideration to boundary alignments, view corridors and internal functions of the home. To take benefit of the southern views huge format picture windows are supplied to the bedrooms and library area while secondary windows and hatches are provided to the east and west facades to maintain privacy to adjoining houses.”
