The artisanal craze might have reached an apex of sorts with the arrival of ‘small batch flavoured’…toothpicks. Canadian company Daneson is in the business of manufacturing toothpicks exclusively from northern white birch wood, and then imbuing them with flavors derived from specially concocted recipes of local and organic components. Amongst the 5 flavors supplied: Salted Birch No. 8, “soaked and rolled in sea salt,” and Single Malt No. 16, dipped in barrel-aged single malt scotch. Handsome packaging—amber test tube vials with cork toppers, and ample interest to typography—help maintain the value at a lofty $19.99 for a 4-vial set containing batches of 12 toothpicks.
